Toy drones with foam darts, in the back yard, at toy scale —
the pond is an ocean, the garden is a jungle and the swing set is a
fortress. Two squadrons of four. A hit costs you a fifth of your
battery; run it out and you sputter down onto the grass and
come straight back, so nobody is ever out.
Hold R for the throttle — let go and you stop and hover,
and a slow drone turns much tighter than a fast one, so easing off is
how you come round inside somebody. Hold A to hose darts,
B to boost, and L1 or L2 to barrel roll left or
right — which deflects darts outright, and is the whole defensive
game. Hover over your own charging pad to fill the battery
back up.
Grab the Triple Dart, the Foam Ball and the
Bubble Shield — and watch for the sprinklers, the wind and
the bird.
Pads: left stick steers · R1/R2 throttle
· A fire · B boost · L1/L2 barrel roll
left and right · X foam ball · Start pause
Keys: arrows steer · shift (or Z) throttle
· X fire · space boost · Q/E barrel
roll · C foam ball
Touch: the d-pad steers and GO is the throttle.
The nose levels itself the moment you let go, so there is nothing to
recover from. Invert Y is in OPTIONS, per seat.
Everybody at this television flies the same squadron — which is the point of it, because then nobody can see the other side's screens. On one television it is just which colour you fancy.
Every pilot moves their own cursor. Fire to lock in, foam ball to change your mind. They are painted in your squadron's colour — the stripe is how your own side tells you apart.
Off means push up to climb, which is what everybody who has not flown a flight sim expects. Every seat picks its own, and it is remembered for next time.
A gentle nudge towards whoever is already near your crosshair. It does not steer you and it does not home the dart.
The empty slots on both sides are flown by the yard.
